WESTMORELAND CONSERVATION COMMISSION

July 6, 2006

The meeting convened at 7:02 p.m. with Marshall Patmos, John Lukin, Jim Blake, Walter Derjue and Jeff Smith in attendance.

The minutes from June 1, 2006 were read and approved.

Marshall said he had received a complete accounting of activity in the Conservation Fund from JoAnn LaBarre and as of June 26th, there was a balance $19,493.24 in the account with an additional $1,383.50 due to be received.

Marshall reported that he had sent Lauren Bressett, Planning Board, the proposed changes to the checklist. She said she would present them to the Board. Marshall clarified the term “Flood Prone” as an area not on the maps, but based on past experience we know they are subject to flooding. Marshall said he would call Lauren to get a sense of when the subject would come up so that he and Jim could be present to explain the rationale and answer questions.

John reported on the June Open Space Committee meeting. Attendance was down with several calling in to say they had a conflict. As a result of these summer time conflicts, the next meeting will be delayed until September with the date to be announced. Jeff said he had a call from George and Nancy Oaks expressing an interest in getting involved in the Open Space Committee. There was some discussion that we need to get sub-committees established to give the committee itself some direction. We plan to use the “Brentwood Open Space Plan” as a model to work from.  It was decided that the Conservation Commission will have a morning work session next month regarding the Open Space Committee rather than their regular meeting. John will announce the September meeting date later this month.

Jim received an anonymous letter with a copy of a “Complaint Form” that had been submitted to the NH Dept. of Environmental Services regarding an alleged septic violation. Discussion followed and it was decided that it was out of our hands as it had been reported to Environmental Services.

Marshal passed out the booklet “Conserving Your Land” to those who didn’t have a copy.

Marshall said that we need to discuss the budget at our next meeting.

Jim proposed creating a project for watershed protection in conjunction with the Planning Board. After some discussion, it was decided that it was not pressing issue at this time due to the nature of our water supply.

Jim said there was an article in the Current “Monadnock Shopper” regarding the overgrown state of the trails on the County Farm. Marshall said this is due to be corrected.

     Meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
